"Helen Vater Blaha of Section 15 in the Town of Beaver  has a licensed nursery and has been selling perennials from her garden at  W3592 Riplinger Road since about 1991."

  • Fischer's Cheese Factory--Sec. 36 Beaver Twp. (From Loyal--2 mi. N on K, 2 1/2 miles E on Rock Creek, 1/4 mi. N on Oak Grove).

  • Foelsh Cheese Factory

  • Grass Sawmill--Milt Ystad, a long time square dance caller in Clark County remembers seeing the footings of this industry in Section 19 when he lived nearby. At best guess, he feels the business probably dated back to the turn of the 20th century.  The property is now owned by Jim and Joan Turnquist.

  • John Paul Lumber Co. (1893 Plat Map--Sec. 5)--The company which owned this land was located along the Mississippi River near the foot of Cass Street on the north side of La Crosse. It operated from 1860 to 1899. In 1895, John Paul Lumber was La Crosse's largest single employer with about 400 workers. In 1879, John Paul Lumber turned out about 15 million feet of lumber.   • Pine Grove Cheese Factory was located in Section 24 on the SW corner of the intersection of what are now Riplinger Road and Oak Grove Avenue.  George Foelsch was the owner.  It operated until there was a fire in the early 1960's.

  • Riplinger Stave & Heading Co.(1893 Plat Map)

  • Woodside Cheese Factory was once owned by August Pieper.  It was located on Rt. 3, Greenwood (bef. 1942) at the corner of present day Robin Ave. & Lover's Road, Sec. 23 in the Town of Beaver Lucille (Fohrman) Miller's dad hauled milk there with a horse and buggy when Alex Witt was the Cheesemaker.

Recites in part:   The purpose of said corporation will be the buying and
selling wood and its products, of buying and selling real estate and for
conducting a general mercantile business. - - -"

Articles of Incorporation. Dated Dec. 5, 1891.Recorded Dec. 28,
1891. Articles recite:--That Michael Ruplinger, Baultus Christman, John
Ruplinger and Willaim Uthmeir, have associated themselves together and
formed a corporation under the name of the "Ruplinger Stave and Heading
Company" for the purpose of carrying on a general manufacturing business of
manufacturing wood staves and heading and its biproducts (sic), buying and
selling real estate, and for conducting a general mercantile
business. Incorporated under the laws of the state of Wisconsin. With its
principal office in the Village of Loyal, Wis.  (Contributed by Helen Vater Blaha)
