Located in Section 19 of the Town of Beaver, Clark Co., Wisconsin.

 

 

Obituary of Hans Ystad (1860 - 1943)

Hans Ystad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Ystad, was born in Stenkjar, Norway on January 2, 1860 and came to a farm near Greenwood on July 13, 1886.

On October 14, 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Jorgina Hembre.  To this union were born 12 children.  Mrs. Ystad passed away in 1933.  Two daughters Mrs. Helga Johnson and Helen Ystad; one brother and 2 sisters preceeded him in death.

Mr. Ystad passed away at the home of his son Hokon Ystad, 4 ˝ miles north east of Greenwood at 9:30 A.M. on Sunday, April 18, 1943 after an illness of many years.  He had reached the age of 83 years, 3 months and 12 days.

He is survived by four sons Olaf, Hokon and Ralph, all of Greenwood and Pvt. Lee Ystad, Camp Chaffee, Ariz.; six daughters Mrs. Jos. (Julia) Hecker, Loyal, Mrs. Carl (Alma) Sheets, Curtis; Mrs. Otto (Amanda) Goehring, Loyal; Mrs. Lyle (Elsie) Jentz, Camp Chaffee, Ariz.; Miss Ellen Ystad, Owen and Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Basele of Milwaukee; 27 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Three sisters, Mrs. John Wisth of Milwaukee and 2 in Norway.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:30 from the Olaf Ystad home and at 2:00
P. M. from the Trondhjem Lutheran church will Rev. M. K. Aaberg officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetary.

The pallbearers are Henry Olson, Oliver Hendrickson, Wm. Rossow, Adolph Turnquist, Leonard Johnson and Art Turnquist.

Jorgine Margrete Hembre was born in Inderoen, Norway, December 4, 1867.  She came over to America on July 13, 1888.  On October 14, 1888 she was united in marriage to Hans Ystad at Greenwood, after which they came to reside northeast of Greenwood.

Eleven children were born to this union, two Helga and an infant Helen preceded her in death.  She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband Hans Ystad and children, Mrs. Joe Hecker, Mrs. Carl Sheets, Mrs. Otto Goehring, Mrs. Lyle Jentz, Olaf Ystad, Hokon, Ralph, Ellen and Jeanette Ystad, one sister, Mrs. Ole Bragstand, two brothers Edward Hembre and Ralph Hembre of Norway.  One sister Ellen of Norway and one brother, Ivar Hembre, preceded her in death.  She also leaves to mourn nineteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o’clock and 2:00 o’clock at the Trondhjem Church.  She was laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetery.
