The Family of Edward & Ingebor Engebretson

THE FAMILY OF EDWARD AND INGEBOR ENGEBRETSON

These are my great-grandparents, Edward and Ingebor Engebretson (sometimes spelled Engelbretson or Englebretson), with their five children in about 1905. My grandmother, Minnie, is between her parents in the front row. The order of appearance is: Back row: Elizabeth b.1886 (Krogness), Emil b.?, Anna 1889 (Johnstone) Front row: Ingebor, Minnie b.1892 (Bragstad), Edward, James b.1897
Edward Engebretson came to the US in 1887, first settling in Coon Valley, Wis. He was later joined by his wife, Ingebor (nee Ingebretson), and their two children (Emil and Elizabeth) in Greenwood in July of 1908. There they farmed until he died in 1928. In her elder years, Ingebor lived for a while with her daughter, Minnie Bragstad in Milwaukee, and then with her daughter, Elizabeth Krogness, in Greenwood where she died in 1949. Edward and Ingeborg are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Emil moved to California where he died.
Minnie lived in Milwaukee where she died.
Anna had a son who died as an infant and according to my grandmother, "Annie had fire engine red hair." She died young in Clark Co., WI around 1914 . Annie and Martin also had two other sons, Albert and Archie. Archie is now in the Clark County Health Care Center along with one of Elizabeth's sons, Conrad Krogness. Archie told me his mother died in childbirth but he has no photos. Archie was always poor ... and had a hard life. Elizabeth and James lived all their lives raising their families in and around Greenwood and Owen. |
