Ackerman, Mr. & Mrs. Charles A. (Golden Anniv – 1 JAN 1907)

About forty relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. A. Ackerman assembled at their home in Pine Valley, Clark County on New Years Day to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. The gathering was a surprise and had been a very cleverly planned to make it not only complete but pleasant.

Mr. Charles A. Ackerman and Miss Mary Elizabeth Condit were married in the town of Rubicon, Dane Co., Jan. 1, 1857, and came to Clark Co. in 1864. They settled on the farm they still own and occupy, then in the midst of the wilderness and by hard work and constant devotion to their duties they made themselves a beautiful home, surrounded by orchard trees, vines, fruit and flowers.

Of their four children, all but the oldest son Cecil, who lives in Washington, were present at the gathering. Their son Fred lives near the parents, daughter Edith at home and the other daughter, Mrs. Henry Garvin with her husband, came from their home at Fessenden, N.D. for the occasion. There were also present Mrs. Ackerman’s brother, Elias Condit and four sisters, Mrs. Gilmore, Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Guest, all of Spring Valley. Mr. T.D. Condit, a brother of Mrs. Ackerman and his wife were among the visitors. All of the other guests except Mrs. Spellman of Hartland, Wis., were neighbors and old friends from this vicinity.

Many useful and beautiful presents were brought, suggestive of the good will of all to their honored host and hostess. A bountiful dinner was served at noon and the day spent in renewing old acquaintances and reviewing the memories of earlier days. Clark County has no better citizens than they and all who know them will rejoice in hearing of their happy New Years Day and wish them many more together.
