News: Mr. & Mrs. A.H. Noetzel
MR. AND MRS. A.H. NOETZEL TO DISCONTINUE BUSINESS IN GREENWOOD (March 1938) Mr. And Mrs. A.H. Noetzel, who have been in business in Greenwood for nearly forty years, have decided to discontinue business at once. This is due to ill health. They came to Greenwood in the fall of 1899 and started a barber shop in the building now being used by Lawrence Berg as a photo studio. Besides the barber shop they also carried a line of confectionery. A year later, in 1900, they built the now Ed Fahey building, where they operated a barber shop until 1912. Then in 1912 they bought what is now the Chas. Ludwig place and successfully conducted a general store. In 1922 they sold the building and business to Mr. Ludwig. They then retired for a year and in 1923 built what is now the C.A. Shields Service Station. That same year they built their home on North Central Avenue. They conducted the filling station untill 1928 when it was sold to Mr. Shields. They also purchased a part of the old Greenwood High School Building which was remodeled and is now the home of the Greenwood Gleaner. In the fall of 1928 they erected their present Variety Store Building. This store has been conducted by them since that time, but now, on account of ill health, they must discontinue and retire from active business life in Greenwood. Therefore, in appreciation of the loyalty and past support of their many friends and customers, for which they are dully grateful, they have decided to put on a Closing Out Sale which will start on Saturday, March 5, and close on Friday April 1. They invite you to come and get your share of the many worthwhile bargains they are offering during their few remaining weeks in business in Greenwood. After closing date of sale their almost new and modern building will be for sale or rent. We regret having them retire from their business in Greenwood but hope that their much earned rest will be beneficial and that the health of Mr. and Mrs. Noetzel will be completely restored so that they may enjoy many years of ease and rest, which they so rightfully deserve. |
