Oakley, E.B. (? – 19 MAR 1910)

Prof. E. B. Oakley, formerly principal of Neillsville High School, died Saturday March 19, 1910, at Los Angeles, Cal., of Bright’s Disease. Mr. Oakley came to Neillsville, Clark County in 1887 and remained her till 1894. In 1889 he was married to Dimple Irene French, who survives him. After going to California he was eight years principal at San Jacinto and since then, nearly eight years at Santa Ana, where he remained till within a few weeks of his death. Among those who will most sincerely mourn his death are hundreds of his former pupils who, during the years of his services came under his clean and wholesome influence. He was a scholar, a man of high ideals and pure Christian Character. During the last five years of his residence here, the writer was closely associated with him in the school work of this county. In him we found a good and true friend, one who was ever ready to help for better things, and one who had his work close at heart. He was a man devoid of selfish purposes, ready to give of his time and strength for the goo of his pupils and the betterment of the community as a whole.

Besides his wife, his only near relative living is one sister, who is a librarian in Seattle. But in all parts of this country are found those who will be counted as mourners, of those generations who have gone out from his school room to take their places in the world, bearing with them the uplift of his teachings. On every hand is heard here words of sympathy for the bereaved wife who shared with her husband the goo will of so many of our people.
