Sunday forenoon July 23, 1911, Harold Redmond, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Redmond of the town of York, Clark County, was killed by the discharge of a revolver, the bullet passing directly through his head. How it came about is a mystery and probably will always remain a mystery. That it was an accident of some sort is evident. In order to solve the problem if possible an inquest was held Tuesday by District Atty. Rush, Justice Campman, and a jury, but it could only be found that he came to his death by a short from a revolver in a manner unknown. He was last see by his parents about eight o’clock in the forenoon. A few hours later, in looking about the barn for the hired man, whose sister had called for him, they discovered that Harold was nowhere about the place, which seemed strange as he never went away from home without permission. They continued to search for him, and shortly his lifeless body was found by his mother in the machine shed. The revolver lying at his feet. Only one shell, and that empty was found in the revolver. His parents did not know that he possessed the weapon. Owing to the fact that they had lost a son by accidental death some years before, and Harold was their only child, they had been very watchful over him. Boy-like he had longed for a gun which had been denied him until he became older, and without their suspecting it he had secured the gun and kept it laid up in the machine shed, where he had evidently gone to look at it on the fatal morning. Harold was 15 years, 4 months and 18 days old, a large strong healthy boy, full of life and vigor, always pleasant and happy. He was very fond of reading and bright in his studies; and in general intelligence was far beyond most boys of his age. His death is particularly pathetic, for around him had centered his parents’ loves and hopes.

The funeral was held Wednesday at the Visgar Church near the home, Rev. W.P. burrows and Rev. H.A. Risser officiating.
