Obit: Bickmore, Henry J. (1868 – 1912)
Surnames: BICKMORE SMITH FLORENCE LAZOTTE Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN & PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 06/27/1912 Bickmore, Henry J. (28 NOV 1868 – 15 JUN 1912) Mr. Henry J. Bickmore passed away very suddenly Saturday morning June 15, 1912 at two o’clock, only his family and a few friends being with him. Mr. Bickmore was born in Portage Co. Nov. 28, 1868, being 44 years, 6 months and 17 days old. When 15 years old he came with his parents to Unity, Wis., and afterwards moved to Tioga, Clark County, where he lived until three years ago, when he moved to Polley, Wis., where he died. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, a wife and four children, John, age 14, Dora , age 12, Bennet, 8, George, 6, two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Florence and Mrs. May Lazotte. He died as he had lived, quietly and peaceably. He had been in failing health for some time and doctored during the past winter, but his relief was only temporary. He acted as night watchman at Nye Lusk and Hudson’s mill, and went to his work in his usual good spirits and health, laughing with his family; at eleven o’clock his wife heard him calling for help. She hurried to him, but before she could locate him he had ceased to answer her. When she found him he was in the creek, having missed the foot bridge, which he was in the habit of crossing in coming to and from work. How he came to be there or any of the other conditions will never be known, as he remained in an unconscious condition to the end. Mr. Bickmore was a man, who to know him was to respect him, and his death cast a gloom over the entire community. Everything that friends could do was done for the sorrowing family. His fellow workmen covered the casket with a beautiful blanket of American Beauty roses. The funeral was held at the house Tuesday morning by Rev. J. Paddock, and the body was taken to York Center for internment. A delegation of friends from Polley accompanied the family to Stanley. |
