Babcock, Mary A. (5 NOV 1857 – 3 SEP 1912)

Mrs. Mary A. Babcock died very suddenly of heart failure at the home of her son, Geo. W. Tyler in Council Bluff, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1912. The remains were brought to this city; funeral services being held at the Pleasant Ridge Church, Rev. Nye officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Lynn Cemetery beside the bodies of her two children.

Mrs. Babcock was born Mary A. Wildish at HeadCorn, Kent County, England, Nov. 5, 1857. She came to Waukesha, Wis. in 1874, and was married to Thomas Tyler, also of England, at Menomonee Falls, Wis., on Sept. 29, 1875. They came to Neillsville, Clark County a little later, buying a farm in Lynn. Five children were born to them, three of who are still living: Mrs. Chas. Poole of Neillsville, Mrs. L.R. Canfield of Tulsa, Okla., and Geo. W. Tyler of Council Bluff, Iowa. On Dec. 15, 1890 she was married to Dean Babcock and to them were born two children, Vivian and Roland. Besides these children she leaves two grandchildren, one brother, John Wildish, of Pine Valley and one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Collins of HeadCorn, England.

Mrs. Babcock lived a consistent Christian life with a heart of love and charity to all. Quiet and unassuming in manner, yet possessed of rare courage and force of character, which never failed her when called upon to bear the hard things of life. Of her it may be truly said: “None knew her but to love her and though she has gone from us, her influence still lives, urging the friends and loved ones left behind, to walk more closely in the foot steps of the Master, whom she so faithfully served.”
