Trindal, Mrs. Orin

I am going to write about our town, our home and our business, which will add a page to the scrapbook which our Loyal, Clark County Women’s Study Club is compiling for this year.

First of all, we live in a small city of about eleven hundred, real peaceful and quiet, but we have all the comforts and privileges of a much larger city, excellent schools, paved streets, water & sewer, we are in the midst of a farming community, dairying, wonderful herds of cows, sheep, hogs, poultry, raise all grains, Hay, corn, have a canning factory, which cans corn, peas and beans.

Now I shall tell you about our family and home. We are a family of five, my husband, myself and we have a son who is married. Andy has three fine children. Also, we have twin daughters, Joyce and Janice, both are commercial teachers in public high schools.

Our home life is all one could ever wish for. We have all worked hard but it has been a pleasure and satisfying to see what we have accomplished in our life time. Loyal being a dairying community fits right in with our business, which I shall try to tell you a little about. We have three elevators, and our son has one of his own, our son works in the home office for his father, also runs his own elevator from there. We have stations at Granton and Spencer, Wis., each about twelve miles from Loyal. We do a retail and a wholesale business, by retail I mean we sell to farmers and to the public, by wholesale we sell direct to others stores and elevators in surrounding towns, in fact we sell to stores as far away as a hundred miles. We have salesmen out calling on stores and elevators six days of the week. We always buy in carloads, we sell many items, all grains, mixed feeds, poultry feeds, turine sugar, coffee, flour, salt, apples, potatoes, fertilizers, seeds of all kinds, and many other items too numerous to mention. We do custom grinding, mixing of feeds. We also buy produce from the farmers, such as wool, poultry, grain, hides, potatoes, etc.

We have two large semi-trailer vans and four straight trucks and they are busy every day. We haul produce from all our neighboring states, also haul all our corn. Our train service is not too good, as we only have train service three days a week, so our trucks must do a lot of our hauling.

We employ twenty-one people, have very faithful men, always willing to do whatever is asked of them. We have all our men covered with a sickness and accident insurance, which includes hospitalization and surgery for them and their entire families. We also have a pension plan that they can retire at sixty-five with a substantial pension, which include a liberal life insurance policy. They get six paid holidays each year, plus a two week vacation with pay.

I could go on and on telling about our business, our home and town, but know there are many others writing also.
