Meseke, Gustie (5 MAR 1858 – 3 AUG 1913)

This neighborhood was greatly shocked Sunday morning to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. A. Meseke. She had assisted with the milking and some other work as usual that morning, but had spoken of having a pain in her head, and going out doors, and not returning, her daughter looked for her and saw her lying on the ground. She was carried in but breathed only a few times after that.

Mrs. Meseke was born Gustie Simdon in Wartein, Germany, Mar. 5, 1858. Dec. 1877 she was married to August Meseke and came to America in 1880, settling in Jefferson Co., where they lived a number of years. About 12 years ago they came to Clark Co. and bought the Burpee farm, where they now live. Thirteen children were born to them, three sons and ten daughters, of which one son and three daughters have passed away. Nine children and her husband, and eight grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. Besides her other relatives and many friends, her children, Mrs. Chas. Gruchow, Mrs. Wm. Grossman, Mrs. Wm. Wolff of Waterloo, Mrs. Fred Couture of International Falls, Minn., Herman, August, Carrie and Esther, who are at home, were present at the funeral Wednesday at the M.E. Church. The Lutheran minister preached the sermon. She was buried beside her daughter in the Christie Cemetery. Mr. Eberhardt was the undertaker. Ye scribe can only say Christie has lost a good and kind woman, one who has always done the best she could in all thing, and we sympathize with the sorrowing family. (Christie, Wis., Aug. 5, 1913)
