Snyder, Augusta (14 APR 1837 – 2 DEC 1913)

One of the oldest settlers of Clark County, Mrs. Augusta Snyder, passed away at her home in this city Dec. 2, 1913. She was born in Germany, April 14, 1837, her maiden name being Augusta Radke. She came to America in 1853, and on Nov. 17, 1855 she was married to Nicholas Snyder and came to Clark County to live. Mr. Snyder had come here two years previously with George Frantz, and located on the farm now owned by Jos. Herian. Here he and his wife made their home, cleared the farm and went through the trials and hardships of pioneer life. In 1877 they sold the farm and moved to Chariton, Iowa, where Mr. Snyder died. After his death Mrs. Snyder returned to Neillsville and lived here the remainder of her life. Five Children were born to them, tow of whom survive, Aug. F. Snyder of this city, and Mrs. O. D. West of Webster City, Iowa. She left also one sister, Mrs. John Jones of Dubuque, Iowa.

Mrs. Snyder possessed all the excellent qualities of womanhood that were needed to cope with the difficulties to be met in the early days in a new country. She was a good wife and mother, a helpful homemaker, and a kind neighbor. Burial took place at Chariton, Iowa beside her husband.
