Ruege, William F. (1 FEB 1853 – 24 FEB 1914)

William Frederick Ruege died at his home in this city Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1914. He was born Feb. 1, 1853 at Schoefeld, Dreis Randow, Pomerania and grew to manhood there. He served four years in the German army; in 1876 came to America and located in Jefferson Co., Wis. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Lund Dec. 24, 1879, at Cambridge, Wis. They came to Clark County in March 1880, and located on a farm in the town of Grant, which was their home for 28 years. Six years ago they purchased a small farm at the south limits of Neillsville, which was their home until his death.

He is survived by his wife and three daughters: Mrs. Alvin Eisentraut and Mrs. Herman Braatz, both of the town of Grant, and Mrs. Clayton Hubbard of Red Cedar, Wis. Also seven grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. His father is still living, aged 84 years.

Mr. Ruege was a man looked upon as one of Clark County’s most substantial citizens. He believed in giving faithful, honest work for earth’s bounties; in dealing fairly with his fellow men; in fulfilling conscientiously his duties as husband, father and citizen; in lending a helping hand to the good things in the community, nad standing for those principles that developed in him a strong Christian character.

The funeral was held Friday, brief services being held at the home and the sermon and further services at the Pleasant Ridge Church, Rev. Schmid officiating. Burial took place in the Grant Cemetery.

Among those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were his sister, Mrs. E. Krueger of Deerfield, Wis. Mrs. Ruege’s sister, Mrs. J.M. Jacobson of Cambridge, a brother-in-law, Mr. Wendt of Waterloo, and Herman Wendt, a nephew, of Fitzburg.
