------Phillips, James (1865?- 26 Dec. 1921)

James Phillips, who died suddenly at his home in Milwaukee, Dec. 26, was born in New Hampden, Iowa, in 1865 (?; the third number was hard to read). He came to Clark County with his family when a young boy. While still quite young he entered the railroad service which he followed until eleven years ago. He became station agent at Shiocton, Wis., and an interesting experience of his life was that while he was employed there he made his home with Eben E. Rexford, the noted Wisconsin author and song-writer. Later he became agent at Iola, Wis., where he made his home for 15 years. In 1894 he was married to Ella McGinnis of Neillsville. Since 1910 they have made their home in Milwaukee. At the time of his death he was manager of the Murphy Feed Co. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He has made occasional visits here ever since he left to go into the railroad service, and retained many of the friendships made in younger days and added new friends. He was a man of fine qualities of heart and mind. He is survived by his wife and three children, Alice, Milo and James; also a sister, Mrs. David Taylor, and a niece, Mrs. A.V. Wallace, both of this city.
