Barr, Robert A. (17 APR 1852 - 25 MAR 1921)

Robert A. Barr was born at Byron, Fond du Lac Co., Wis., April 17, 1852, and died at his home three miles east of Humbird, Clark County, Wis., on Friday morning, March 25, 1921, of Bright's disease, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 8 days.

His early boyhood was spent at Fond du Lac County. He moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hurnan C. Barr, to Fairchild when a boy of seventeen years. He spent his early manhood in the logging camps of this place, working with E. D. Carter for a time, and also had employment with C. C. Graves in the saw mills.

Mr. Barr was married to Norissa E. Thomas, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Thomas, July 6, 1874, at Fairchild, where they lived for a time, then moved to Humbird, where they resided until six years ago. He, with his family, moved to Mink, Montana, where they resided for five years. They returned a year ago, where they resided up to the time of his death.

Three children have preceded him to the Great Beyond, Everett and Olive dying in infancy, and Myrtle at the age of 18 years. Besides his wife he leaves fourteen children to mourn, namely: William of Hewett, Minn., Archie, Clyde and Claude of Groton, Vt., Mrs. Nettie Primmer of Mead, Wash., Dean of Racine, Mrs. Cora Gunderson and Mrs. Zylphia West of Disco, Mrs. Leota Thompson of Black River Falls, Roy, Fred, Worthing, Mrs. Lelah Gregory and Mrs. Iola Housley, all of this place. He also leaves twenty-five grandchildren, two of whom, Vivian and Olive Barr, have made their home with him since babyhood. There also survive him, one sister, Mrs. M. J. Ingalls of Beaverton, Oregon, and one brother, Andrew Barr of Fairchild.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Monday afternoon and the large congregation present testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held by the old neighbors and friends, in whose midst he had lived for many years. Rev. A. Coram preached the funeral sermon. Burial was in the Mentor Cemetery.

Of the surviving sons and daughters living other places, all were present at the funeral excepting William, Archie, Claude, Clyde, and Mrs. Primmer. His sister also was unable to be present. Other relatives who were present were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harlson and daughter of Black River Falls, and Mrs. Maggie Huber of Cataract.
