Nor particulars were given of the accident. Earl Pierce, brother of the deceased, left Tuesday morning to attend the funeral. Glenn was about 25 years of age. He was a young man well liked by all who knew him. We shall endeavor to publish particulars regarding his untimely death and an obituary next week. (Obituary in 5/26/1923 Humbird Enterprise) Glenn Leroy Pierce, whose untimely death was chronicled in last issue of the Enterprise, was born near Humbird, Clark County, Wis. on June 24, 1897, where he grew to manhood. In 1920, he went to Oregon, where he became an engineer for the Warren Construction Co., and later held the position of foreman on the same plant. He was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Blake of Goble, Oregon, in April 1921, and was located first at Columbia City, then Corvallis, and recently had moved to Goble. At the time of his death he was employed by the company on a job near Salem. Saturday, May 12th, he started to drive home, a distance of 165 miles, to spend a few days with his wife and little son. His car overturned on the slippery pavement, pinning him underneath. He was found by passing motorists, who immediately took him to a Salem hospital, where he died three hours later without recovering consciousness. The funeral was held at Goble on May 18th, having waited the arrival of his brother Earl, from here. Glenn leaves to mourn his death his wife and son Edwin of Goble, Oregon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pierce; five sisters, Mrs. James Hardwick, Iva, Agnes, Margaret, and Beatrice; and two brothers, Earl and Guy, all residing in this vicinity. He was 25 years, 10 months and 18 days of age. |
