Obit: Biter, Joseph (1841 - 1922)
Surnames: Biter, Lalone, Stoffel, Case, Longenecker Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Thursday, 03/09/1922 -----Biter, Joseph (18 Dec. 1841 - 3 March 1922) Joseph Biter, one of the oldest settlers of this vicinity, died at his home on Pleasant Ridge, March 3, aged 80 years, two months, and 15 days. He was born near Toronto, Canada, Dec. 18, 1841. He came to Clark County in 1860, worked in logging camps, saw mills and on the river and in 1869 was married to Mary Lalone of Potsdam, New York. They began married life on the farm where he died, on the Pleasant Ridge road a short distance east of this city. There they worked hard, cleared their land and made a good home. About 16 years ago his wife died. Since then his adopted daughter, Mrs. Wm. Stoffel, and her husband took charge of the farm and cared for Mr. Biter in his declining years. Mr. Biter was a man of many sterling qualities; he had positive opinions which he never feared to express and maintain, but he was honest and straight forward, and a believer in square dealing. He filled his place in the world as a man should. He leaves the adopted daughter, Mrs. Stoffel, three grandsons, Glynn, Hugh and Clinton Stoffel and two nieces, Mrs. Case of Baraboo and Mrs. Snyder of Duluth. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Congregational church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. |
