M. F. Beaulieu, one of Neillsville’s long-time residents, passed away at his home on Fifth Street Sunday evening, Dec. 3, after a lingering illness from brights disease.

Millard F. Beaulieu was born in New York State May 12, 1850. He came to Green Bay, Wisconsin, with his parents when about three years of age. He grew to manhood there and as there married to Olive Tyler. They came to Neillsville in 1884. He went into the mercantile business here with John Hein, the firm name being Hein & Beaulieu, which was carried on for several years. At the same time he as interested in several cheese factories and also in logging operations. Later he did logging with Mr. Hyslop and Mr. Goddard of La Crosse. For a time he carried on a grocery business by himself and then went back to his old trade, blacksmithing, at the same time selling a line of farm machinery. For five years he carried on a farm at Osseo. On returning to Neillsville he retired from active work. He met with a bad automobile accident and later has severe spells of sickness. Although he was a man of iron constitution and great physical vigor his strength was gradually undermined and for the past year he has been an invalid most of the time, the last few weeks he was confined to the bed.

Until his health failed, Mr. Beaulieu was active man of business, contributing a great deal to the progress and prosperity of this city and community. He was efficient in many things, ready to do his part in all that was going on, and was ge?al and cheerful under all circumstances. His first wife died in 1891, and the following year he was married to Miss Mary Ayers, who survives him. He leaves four children from the first marriage, Mrs. Chas. Youmans of Timber Lake, S. Dak., Mrs. H. A. Albright of Neillsville, a son Lester at Sacramento, Cal., and a son William at Superior, Wis.

The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Donnell officiating.
