--------Irish, James (17 Oct. 1834 - 15 March 1923)

James Irish died at the home of his son Clarence Irish in this city, Thursday night, March 15, 1923, aged 88 years and 5 months.

Deceased was born in Erie County, New York, Oct. 17, 1834. He came to Minnesota in 1861 and settled near Rochester. Later he lived in Wisconsin and made several moves back and forth between the two states. Eight years ago he came here to make his home with his son and has lived here ever since. He was married at Waupaca, Wis., Jan., 1855 to Miss Betsy Forbes. To them were born six children, five of whom are living, Clarence Irish of Neillsville, Mrs. James Carter of Shortville, Walter Irish of Wadena, Minn., Earl Irish and Mrs. E. B. Harvey both of Rochester, Minn. He leaves also 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. His first wife died 28 years ago. Some years later he married again and the second wife had been death twelve years.

Mr. Irish was a man of fine qualities of character, living up to the principles of Christianity and morality in all his dealings with his fellow men. He was a member of the Christian Church of Rochester, Minn.

The funeral was held at the home Saturday forenoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating, and the remains were taken to Rochester for burial.
