Gangler, John (20 FEB 1845 - 3 NOV 1923)

John Gangler, for many years a resident of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. and vicinity, died in Chicago at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Imse, Nov. 3, 1923, at 1:40 p.m. His death was due to heart failure and old age.

John Gangler was born in Germany Feb. 20, 1845. During his boyhood and when a young man he spent some time in Luxembourg and France. He was married in Germany to Catharine Marx, about 52 years ago. Soon after their marriage they came to America and lived for a short time at West Bend, also in Milwaukee. About 47 years ago they came to Neillsville and settled on a farm south of the city. In a few years they sold the place and moved to town. For a long time Mr. Gangler was employed in the furniture factory and in other occupations about the city. He was an industrious man, faithful and efficient in his work. About 14 years ago his wife died. For the past ten years he has spent much of his time with his children in Chicago and Waupaca. Mr. Gangler was a man of pleasant and genial disposition, well liked by everyone who knew him. In recent years when he returned here from time to time he was greeted gladly by his many old friends here and greatly enjoyed visiting with them. Even in his advanced age he continued to keep busily employed, till about a year ago, when an injury to one of his arms caused him to retire.

To Mr. and Mrs. Gangler were born 12 children, 9 of who survive: Mrs. Maggie Geisler, Neillsville; John Gangler, Chicago; Mrs. Hanna Hughes, Milwaukee; Matt Gangler, Chicago; Nicholas Gangler, Neillsville; Mrs. Lena Imse, Chicago; Wm. Gangler, Chicago; Joe Gangler, who is a traveling man with headquarters in the east; Peter Gangler, Chicago. Deceased leaves also 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The remains were brought here for burial in the family lot, the funeral being held last Wednesday forenoon at the Catholic Church, Rev. P. Weber officiating. All the children were present at the funeral except the son Joe, who could not be reached by wire in time.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wanty, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hughes and two sons, who came by auto from Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Gangler and children, Mr. and Mrs. John Gangler, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gangler and son, and John Derickson, all of Chicago, who came by train and returned home Friday.
