Old Cans Don't Go rural route patrons can no longer receive mail in old cans, shaky wooden boxes, and the like. The inspectors demand that a suitable box be furnished or the mail must not be delivered.

Miss Iia Washburn went to Augusta Wednesday. Richard Zerbel and wife left Thursday of last week for Wardener, B. C. Mrs. H. S. Perry and little son came up from Merrillan Wednesday noon. F. J. Payson, of Chippewa Falls, succeeds J. Posternock as night operator here. Frank Payne, of Erskin, Minn., spent part of the week with his mother here. John Peterson and family enjoyed a visit from his sisters from Merrillan over Sunday. Mrs. Jennie and Ivis Hart went to Merrillan last Saturday for a visit with their sister. C. E. Bollon, who has been visiting at the home of S. Delano, returned to Osseo Wednesday. Russ and Elmer Putman and Luzi Schneller went to Fairchild Thursday noon. Some of them were looking for work cutting wood near Tioga. V. Hein, who has been at the Rochester hospital for the past few weeks receiving treatment for his eyes, returned last week and is much better. B. J. Stallard and W. E. Waters attended Masonic lodge at Eau CLaire last Friday evening, when the third degree was conferred upon F. A. Shute, of Altoona. W. E. Gregory last week purchased a 6 h. p. gasoline engine to run his wood saw. We are informed that he will exchange it for a larger size so as to use it for other purposes also. H. C. Maxon was in Neillsville last Saturday on business. Mr. Maxon has disposed of his California holdings and was at the county seat arranging to transfer the property held in the name of his son Paul. We understand that Mr. Maxon will invest in Oregon near Portland. Chairman Theiler went to Neillsville last Saturday to take Peter Smokel to the county farm. The old gentleman has been living on a homestead in Town 26, but this winter has been sick.
