Bullard, Warren C. (7 MAY 1848 - 25 NOV 1924)

Warren C. Bullard was born May 7, 1848 in Washington Co., Wis. At the age of fourteen he went to Fond du Lac with his parents where he grew to manhood.

For several years he was superintendent of a large shingle mill.

He was married March 1, 1873 to Miss Matilda Matteson of Fond du Lac. In 1879, he moved his family to Little Falls, Minn., where they lived six years. Here Mr. Bullard was associated with his brother in a Sash, Door and Blind factory. In 1885 the family returned to Wisconsin, settling in Clark County. For 38 years they have been honored residents of Neillsville.

Mr. Bullard was superintendent of the Electric Light Plant for about seven years.

His health has not been robust, and on Thursday last he was stricken with typhoid pneumonia, which resulted in his death Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 1924.

Mr. Bullard is survived by his wife and children: Fred V. of Neillsville, Harold W. of Martinsville, West Virginia, and Mrs. Maude Gray of Oxford, Wis., and three grandchildren. A brother, Andrew J., aged 84, and a sister, Mrs. White, also survive, and are living in California. One son died in infancy and another son, Ernest E., who was a soldier in the regular army seven years, died in 1914. His surviving sons are veterans of the last two wars.

Mr. Bullard will be greatly missed by a great circle of friends.

Soon after the Bullard family came to Neillsville. Mr. Bullard and his wife confessed faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church at this place under the ministry of Rev. Mr. Hill, who was then serving the church. He was elected a ruling elder in his congregation soon after he became a member and later was made the Clerk of Session of his congregations. For more than twenty-five years he served in these capacities and was most faithful in his service to the church. Everyone respected Mr. Bullard and he has many friends to whom his death is recognized as a distinct personal loss.

When the end came he met it serenely and was fully conscious to the last. How like an ancient servant of God who, on contemplating his passing from this life into the great beyond said: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me."

The funeral was conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the residence, Rev. G. J. Donnell the minister, and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. The burial was made at the Neillsville Cemetery.
