Otis Slocomb, who had been critically ill for about a week, passed away at his home in Neillsville at 5:30 o’clock Monday morning, May 11, 1925. Mr. Slocomb had been in failing health form heart trouble for the past year and decided to rent his farm in the town of Grant and move to Neillsville to be free from the work on the farm. On May 1st, Mr and Mrs. Slocomb moved to the city, and almost immediately his condition became critical. The absent children were summoned home, and a competent nurse secured, and all united their efforts in caring for Mr. Slocomb, but he continued to fail till the end came.

Otis Slocomb was born on the home farm in town of Grant June 26, 1869, being the son of Charles and Mary (Duffy) Slocomb, pioneers of that town and on that farm he spent practically all the years of his life. In early manhood he worked in lumber camps, assisting in summer in clearing the home, farm which in later years he purchased and greatly improved, also buying additional land. He was for many years considered one of the leading citizens of his town and of this community. He was for many yeas a member of the local school board, was six years town assessor and for several years chairman of the town board, representing his town on the county board. During the War he, was a member of the Clark County Exemption Board. While serving on the county board, his ability in the matter of highways was acknowledged as very valuable, and even after he was no longer a member of that body, he was retained in the service of the county as a member of the Highway Committee. Mr. Slocomb was a man of the highest integrity. He was possessed of sound judgment, honesty of purpose, and faithfulness to duty. He did not shrink from criticism, but did what he though was right in both public and private life, and he will be greatly missed not alone in his home, but in this entire community.

Mr. Slocomb was married in November, 1892 to Miss Agnes M?nce (? Could be o or a), who survives him. He leaves five children: Ira O. Slocomb, an attorney at law of Menomonie, Wis., with office in the Kraft State Bank; Isabella, Mrs. C. J. Beglinger of St. Paul, Minn., Mary, cashier in a St. Paul Hotel; Verna, Rest is cut off.
