Obit: Crandall, Nelson E. (1860 - 1927)
Surnames: CRANDALL MONTGOMERY WOOD Source: NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 02/10/1927 Crandall, Nelson E. (30 JAN 1860 - 2 FEB 1927) Nelson E. Crandall passed away at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 1927. Mr. Crandall has been an invalid for many years. Some 26 years ago a severe illness came upon him and transformed him from a very vigorous strong man into a condition of invalidism, although for some time he continued to do considerable work. He has been practically laid up for 13 years, for the latter portion of that time being confined to bed or a wheel chair. Yet he was cheerful and uncomplaining beyond what seemed possible. Mr. Crandall was born at Farmington, Wis., Jan. 30, 1860. He grew to manhood there and on Jan. 18, 1883 was married to Miss Kate Montgomery at Mt. Horeb, Wis. They lived a year in Jefferson Co. and moved to Clark County, purchasing 80 acres of land five miles north of Neillsville, where they lived 4 years. They then moved to this city and lived 2 years, then buying a small farm west of Black River Bridge. This was their home till they moved to the city 13 years ago. Mr. Crandall was a man of high character, modest and gentlemanly in manner, devoted to his home and family and to his friends. He had not an enemy in the world. He leaves his wife and three children: Bert Crandall of Casper, Wyoming; Eugene of Granton and Hazel, Mrs. Will Wood of Salem, Ohio. The daughter was here for some time before her father's death, and the son Bert, arriving on Wednesday just after just after the father had passed away. Two brothers also survive, Chester of Hebron, Wis., and Bert of Minneapolis. The funeral was held Friday at the Congregational Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating, the Modern Woodman ceremony also being used at the church and the cemetery. |
