Surnames: PIERCE WENZEL DIXON ELLIS KNIGHT WOOD Source: NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 12/27/1928 Pierce, Walter L. (12 AUG 1879 - 22 DEC 1928) W. L. Pierce passed away at his home on Fourth St. (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), Saturday morning, Dec. 22, 1928, after an illness of nearly six weeks, from pneumonia. Walter Leroy Pierce was born near Cedar Falls, Wis., Aug. 12, 1879 and had reached the age of 49 years, 4 months and 10 days at the time of his death. He learned the barber trade at Stanley and then went to Minneapolis, where he worked for some time. He went to Alma Center and after a short stay there he came to Neillsville in 1909 and has remained here ever since, working steadily at his trade. He was married here in 1910 to Miss Elsie H. Wenzel, who survives him. Mr. Pierce was a quiet man of gentlemanly ways, a man who never spoke ill of anyone, and strove to live uprightly and deal justly with all his fellow men. In his home he was kind and thoughtful and will be sadly missed. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Virginia, a young girl at home and attending school. He leaves also one brother, Byron of Croft, S.D., and four sisters: Mrs. John Dixon, Platte, S.D.; Mrs. Carl Ellis, Belle Fouche, S.D.; Mrs. Henry Knight, Menomonie, Wis.; Mrs. Mortimer Wood, Portland, Oregon. Longenecker officiating. The Woodmen will also take part in the services, deceased was a member of both the Modern Woodmen and the Beavers.
