Thursday afternoon as Freddie Nauretz was riding a pony around the course at the Fair Grounds, he suddenly fell off. He was noticed by Billy Hill and John Henry Flym, two Boy Scouts who were in the Fair Ground Woods. They hastened to where he fell and found him unconscious. Using a board as an emergency litter they tried to carry the injured lad to the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs. George Reams who live on the farm adjoining the Fair Grounds, but found that he was too heavy for them to carry, so one of the boys ran to the Reams home and informed Mrs. Reams. Mr. Reams was not at home, but Henry Markwardt, who lives near by was called and he came with his car and conveyed Freddie to Dr. Rosekrans office.

After a careful examination Dr. Rosekrans decided that it was necessary to get the boy to a hospital. Schiller’s ambulance was called and he was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire, where every effort was made to save his life. He remained unconscious, suffering from a concussion of the brain. The surgeons operated upon him as a last hope to bring relief, but he failed to rally and died early Monday morning. His uncle George Reams was with him constantly at the hospital and Mrs. Reams and others of the family came to see him.

Freddie was 13 years, 5 months and 10 days old at his death. He was born at Festina, Iowa. Several years ago his parents died and the little orphan lad was taken into the Reams home where he was given the best of care. He did well in school, finishing the eighth grade this year and would have entered high school next year if he had lived. He was a good boy in every way and was much loved by his uncle and aunt and by all others who knew him.

The body was brought to Neillsville by Schiller’s ambulance on Tuesday and the funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Thursday morning at 9:30 o’clock.

Beside the relatives mentioned Freddie leaves two brothers and a sister in Chicago and two brothers with other relatives here.
