Property: Breseman Cheese Factory
North of Granton, on Cty. Hwy. "K" and Pesdorf - Timberlane Roads intersection was a Town of York Facctory owned and operated by Breseman.
This is the York Dairy which was destroyed by fire. The early 1900s were years of many cheese factories in Clark County. Road intersection, here and there, were likely locations for cheese factories. The convenience of a nearby factory enabled the farmers of the area to hand the fresh milk daily, to be processed. The Town of York cheese factory was located north of Granton, near County Highway K, at the Pelsdorf and Timberlane intersection. Al Breseman was the owner operator of the York Dairy in the late 1900s. The building stood three miles northwest of Neillsville, last Friday and will be rebuilt. Thiat is the plan of Al Breseman, owner, who suffered a severe hand laceration and other injuries during the fire, which resulted in damage estimated at "no far from $20,000." Mr. Breseman said he plans to build a new factory on the location, using cinder block. It will be a one-story structure with a flat roof, according to his present plan. The York Dairy was handling a run of about 20,000 pounds of mild daily. The Breseman trucks are now hauling to the York Center Factory, where facilities are being strained to take care of the additional load. Two of the York Dairy men are working with the York Center factory. Breseman said that he hopes to get started on cleaning up the remains of the factory area as soon as his physical condition will permit. Neighboring farmers have offered to help with the task. |
