Bio: Kauffman Family, Everett A.
Surnames: KAUFFMAN SUCHYNA ASHTON CAMPBELL JEFFREY Source: Town of Fremont History - 1973 Kauffman Family, Everett A. I was born in Rolfe, Iowa, to Harry F. and Emma Jeffrey Kauffman in 1918. We came to a farm in Section 7 of Fremont, Clark County, Wis., where my father purchased an 80 acre farm from Walter Minette. Harry brought his cattle, horses, machinery, and household effects in two rented railroad box cars. The train came in on the Romadka Railroad that stopped at the Romadka Station in March 1920.
In 1935 Harry purchased 40 acres across the road (in the Town of York), from Jack Eibergen. In 1943 I bought a house, barn, and 20 acres from Robert Gehrt, that joined the home farm. In February 1945 I was married to Frances M. Suchyna of Chicago, Ill., and we made our home in the house on 20 acres until October 1945, when we moved to the "home farm" and my parents took up permanent residence in Neillsville. My father died in 1963 and my mother still lives in Neillsville. In 1946 we bought a joining 40 acres from Wilmer Minette. We own and farm 180 acres. For 40 years we had sheep on this farm, but now we crop and dairy farm. We have three children, Michael, Jean (Mrs. Robert H. Ashton), and Kathleen (Mrs. Harris W. Campbell III). In 1957 we purchased 80 acres of woodland in the Town of Lynn, Clark County from W. L. Smith. Our son Michael and I took off 12,000 feet of pine lumber from these woods, which Walter Moldenhauer sawed into boards, and Freeman McHone planed the lumber, with which we built our ranch style home in 1959. At present I am Town Chairman of Fremont, on the Clark County Board of Supervisors, and Chairman of the Clark County Draft Board. The Log Barn on the Kauffman Farm, as it appeared in 1905, is pictured below. |
