Siems, William (3 Aug. 1846 - 26 July 1930)

William Siems passed away at his home on East Ninth St., in this city, Saturday, July 26, having nearly reached the age of 84. He had been in good health till last Christmas when he was stricken with pneumonia, and although recovering from that disease, he did not recover his strength and continued to fail gradually.

Mr. Siems was born in Germany Aug. 3, 1846. At the age of 23 he came to America and settled in Illinois, where he followed farming. On Dec. 28, 1875 he was married to Miss Louise Pingel at Addison, Du Page County, Illinois. For 20 years they lived at Elk Grove, Ill., and in 1895 came to Clark County, purchasing a farm in the town of Levis. In 1914 they sold the farm and moved to Neillsville.

After nearly 52 years of married life, Mrs. Siems preceded her husband in death on Feb. 14, 1927. Since then he has continued to live in the home, his granddaughter Mrs. Leo Young taking care of the house and looking after his comfort.

Mr. Siems was a man of upright honest character, pleasant and friendly in manner and highly respected by all who knew him. He was an excellent farmer and his fields and farm premises were always a model of neatness and good cultivation.

Since moving to the city he followed market gardening and had many friendly customers.

To Mr and Mrs. Siems were born nine children, of these seven sons preceded them in death. Those surviving are William Siems of Pine Valley and Mary, Mrs. Jos. Kopp of Levis. He leaves also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann officiating.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs. Ed. Pingel of Arlington Heights, Ill., Mrs. Alvin Mess of Bensonville, Ill., Herman Pingel of River Forest, Ill., Mr and Mrs. Arthur Linke and son of Chicago; Herman Siems, a nephew, and Mr and Mrs. Henry Bluemel and two of their children, Laura and Arthur of Glen Elyn, Ill.

The flower girls were Genevieve and Jeanette Zimmer, Leona Andraschko and Lucille Evans.
