Haack, Ruth (7 Oct. 1908 - 3 Jan. 1931)

Miss Ruth Haack, R. N., died at Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday evening, Jan. 3, aged 22 years, 3 months and 26 days.

Ruth was born in Luxembourg, Wis., Oct. 7, 1908. She came to Neillsville with her parents, Mr and Mrs. F. J. Haack, when she was a small child. Later she went to Algoma to attend school and made her home with her grandmother. She had nearly completed her high school course in Algoma when she entered the Nurses Training school in Luther Hospital at Eau Claire, completing the course may 6, 1929. After graduation she followed her profession in and around Eau Claire until August 1930, when she was offered a position in the University hospital at Ann Arbor, Mich. During her training course she was a frequent visitor at her home here.

About eight weeks ago she was taken sick with diphtheria in a severe form. Although very low for sometime she began to gain and was apparently on the way to recovery, and has written cheerful messages home; but Saturday some turn for the worse came and she passed away that evening. Her father left for Ann Arbor immediately to bring the body home.

The death of Ruth Haack just at the beginning of a life of beauty and promise seems indeed a sad loss. Her cheerfulness and natural skill fitted her well for her profession. In the home she was always kind and considerate to al about her, and she was loved by all who knew her. The writer can not do less than speak personally of her fine qualities; when a patient in Luther hospital, Ruth, then a student nurse, helped to care for us, and we remember full well her cheerful presence, her kindness and patience, and her fine skill, even then, as a nurse.

She leaver her father and step mother on the farm in the town of Weston, a brother Norman at home and a brother Theodore a high school student in Marshfield.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home and 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran church, Rev. Wm. Bauman officiating.

She will be buried in her nurse’s gown. A delegation of nurses from Luther hospital will attend in uniform and carry flowers. The pall bearers will be Henry Kroll, Fred Quast, Donald Acheson, Danile Turville, Clarence Linsil and Otto Kuehkel.
