Obit: Moffatt, Eugene R., Sr. (1868 - 1931)
Surname: Moffatt, Forbush, Longenecker Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 29 Jan. 1931 Moffatt, Eugene R., Sr. (29 June 1868 - 24 Jan. 1931) Eugene R. Moffatt Sr., one of the old residents of the town of Hewett, died suddenly Saturday forenoon, Jan. 24. He was at the barn doing chores alone and was found dead by members of the family. Dr. Horace Frank was summoned at once, but as life was extinct nothing could be done. Death was due evidently to embolism of an artery in the brain, or as it is familiarly called, a stroke of paralysis. Eugene Moffatt was born in the town of Pine Valley, June 29, 1868, and he had reached the age of 62 years, 6 months and 25 days at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Lizzie Forbush in Neillsville Sept. 22, 1888. They went at once to live in the town of Hewett and have made their home in that town ever since. Mr. Moffatt was an industrious farmer, careful in his management and was continually improving his farm. Although he had not felt well for the past few weeks he had kept to work and was planning some farm improvements. He was a man of quiet habits but took an interest in public affairs, having been a school district officer and one of the supervisors of the town of Hewett. He was a kind husband and father and an excellent citizen. Mr. Moffatt is survived by his wife and six sons: Harry at home; Holly at Janesville; Eugene Jr. at Tiffany; Willard at home; Percy at Beloit and Vilas at home. One daughter, Mrs. Maude Cox, died 4 years ago. He leaves also 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The funeral will be held at Lowe’s Funeral Home this Wednesday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. |
