Elmer Hopp (3/4/1906-1938)

West Fremont--Funeral services for Elmer Hopp, 32, who died early Thursday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, of injuries suffered Tuesday afternoon in a farm accident, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church at Veefkind.

The Rev. Arthur R. Oates, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield, conducted the 2 o'clock service at the Walter Hopp Sr. home, and also officiated at the 2:30 o'clock funeral rites at the church. Interment was made in Hillside cemetery, Marshfield.

Pallbearers were William Dankemyer, Gerald Dankemyer, Clark Mills, Roy Portz, Raymond Mundt, and Harland Meissner. Those who carried flowers were Mrs Clark Mills, Mrs. William Dankemyer, Alta Parker, Natalie Dankemyer, and Esther and Viola Beil.

Mr. Hopp was born March 4, 1906, in Union, IL, where he lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hopp Sr., until 1919. In that year he came with his parents to Clark County, settling in the Town of Fremont, where he had since resided.

He was married to Miss Lila Leonhardt, town to Fremont, Sept. 1, 1931. Besides his wife, two children survive, Delores and Lyle.

Other surviving relatives are his parents, Mr. and Mr. Walter Hopp Sr; two brothers, Walter Hopp Jr., Clinton, and Irvin Hopp, Plato Center, IL; one sister, Mrs. Harold (Ethel) O'Dell, Owen; and a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Schroeder, Marengo, IL

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hopp Jr, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Hopp and daughters, Dorothea and Erlyn, and son, Donald, and Mrs. O'Dell came immediately in response to word that Mr. Hopp had been injured.

West Fremont--Elmer Hopp, 31, farmer living 2 miles north of Chili, is in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield today as a result of an injury suffered at his farm late yesterday.

Hopp jumped from the window of his silo to the silage, 6 or 8 feet below, landing on the handle of a fork which was standing upright in the silo. The fork handle penetrated his intestines and caused serious internal hemmorhages.

A transfusion was performed at the hospital last night but Hopp's condition remained serious today and physicians feared the effect of peritonitis resulting from the wound.

Hopp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hopp, Chili. He is married and the father of two children.
