William Simek

William “Bill” Simek, age 82, of Neillsville, died Feb. 14, 1997 at the Memorial Medical Center Nursing Home.

William Frank Simek was born on April 30, 1914 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Frank and Mary (Storek) Simek. They moved to Neillsville on April 1, 1928 and Bill attended the Oriole Hill School just north of Neillsville and also worked the family farm. He was united in marriage to Doris Wachholz on July 3, 1937 in Montello, Wis. After marriage they moved to Chicago where they lived for five years. They moved back to Neillsville on March 1, 1946 and Bill joined his father in the painting business. He retired several years ago. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1959.

He is survived by his wife. Doris; two sons, Bill (Ginger) of St. Paul, Minn., and Jim (Linda) of Neillsville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jason, Julie, Jennifer, Stuart, and Douglas; one sister, Mildred (Harold) Gault of Wausau, Wis., and one nephew, Edward Gault, of Wausau. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 1997 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated. Music was provided by Janice Mayer, soloist and Judy Trunkel was organist. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Casket bearers were Fred Kieser, Sam Ray, Lamar Schmitz, and Ken Van Dam.

Honorary casket bearer was Herman Hagedorn.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
