Bullard, Matilda (28 Sept. 1849 - 1932)

Matilda Mattison Bullard was born Sept. 28, 1849 in Mexico, Oswego county, New York. At nine years of age she came with her parents to Washington County, Wisconsin where the family lived for two years. In the year 1860 the family moved to Fond du Lac, Wis., where she spent the remainder of her youth and on March 1, 1873 she was married to Warren C. Bullard, who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1924. Four children were born to this union: Fred of Neillsville, Maude, now Mrs. H. Gray of Winter, Wis.; Ernest, deceased in 1914 and Harold of Ontario, Canada.

In the year of 1885, Mr and Mrs. Bullard came to Clark county and settled in the town of Hewett. A year later they moved to Neillsville and live first on 9th street, then for about four years on 7th street, and since 1891 in the home at the corner of West 4th street and South Grand avenue.

Mrs. Bullard has been a very gracious character with many friends. She has been affiliated with the W. R. C., in which she served as Chaplain; the W. C. T. U.; the Inter-Church Mission Study Club and the Presbyterian Church in which she has been a member most of her life. Her church has always been a very large place in her life. Religion has been no side line for her but rather the business of her life, so she has been faithfully active in the fellowship of the Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, Communion Steward, member of the Aid Society and president for a number of years of the Presbyterian Mission society. When failing strength would no longer permit her attendance, she would look forward with keen interest to the coming of someone who might report to her concerning the activities of the Church. Her beautiful Christian character, a life of faith, fellowship with God and service for Him gave her a joyous expectancy of the life that is eternally with God.

She is survived by her two sons, Fred and Harold, one daughter Maude, three grandchildren and a host of friends who will hold her life precious in memory.

The funeral was held this Wednesday afternoon at the Union Church, Rev. P. B. White officiating.
