Marette, John (16 JUL 1859 - 16 SEP 1924)

Mr. John Marette died at his home in the village (Dorchester, Clark County, Wis.) Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1924, after an illness of nearly three weeks, heart trouble being the cause of his death.

The funeral was conducted at the St. Louis Catholic Church Saturday morning, Sept. 20, Rev. Paul Pitzenberger officiating. The remains were laid at rest in the Catholic Cemetery South of the village, Henry Mertens, Anton, Joe, John, Jake, and Casper Boxrucker acting as pallbearers.

John William Marette was born in Bonnert, Belgium, July 16, 1859, and was 65 years and two months at time of death.

He came to the U. S. in 1890 direct to Appleton, Wis., and May 9, 1891 he was united in marriage at the same city to Rosalie Tock.

Seven children were born to them, four dying in infancy and three, George Nicholas, and Rosalie, surviving him.

In 1900 they moved to Dorchester country, purchasing the farm west of the village, where he lived until his first wife died, then six years ago he moved into the village where Rosalie attended school.

On Feb. 14, 1920, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Josephine Werner, who had four children, Edward, Loretta, Stella, and Julius Werner. They, too, will mourn a father's love for he was truly a father to them. They never received an unkind word or look from him, who is gone, only friendly loving council and care such as he had given his own children, who have gone out into the world well fitted to be the fine men and woman they are.

Not only they will miss him but all who knew him will miss him too, for he was a fine, upright, Christian gentleman that one was bettered by associating with and he will live long in the hearts of his fellow men.

Wh he is gone we know not, but for him all trouble and sorrows are over and he has come to a well earned rest.

Besides his wife and four step-children, his son, Nicholas of Plankington, and daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Graw of La Crosse, were here for the funeral. His son, George of Orr, Minn., who was here awhile and assisted in caring for his father, was unable to return for the funeral, but his wife came.

Other relatives and friends were his brother, Nicholas, and a niece, Mary Marette, a nephew, Oscar Masonette, and brother-in-law, Nicholas Ellenbecker, all of Appleton, Mr. J. Hartman and family, Mrs. John Schubach and Mrs. Joe Hirsch, all of Medford, and Anton Viet of Marshfield.
