Picha, Jack (2 JUN 1866 – 17 SEP 1901)

Jack Picha, a young farmer living in the town of Holeton, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, the result of being struck on the head by a pole while pulling stumps the day before. He and his brother, Frank, were pulling stumps with a spring pole and in some way the pole slipped and struck Jack on the head rendering him unconscious for a few minutes. After he regained consciousness he was assisted tot he house by his brother and was confined to his bed. Dr. Nedry was immediately summoned and was recognized by Jack. After an examination Dr. Nedry pronounced recovery hopeless. Jack remained sleeping quietly until about 20 minutes before his death when he became uneasy.

The deceased was born in Austria on June 2nd, 1866. After living there for some time he immigrated to the United States and located at Milwaukee. Soon after the family moved to Manistee, Mich. where Jack was engaged in the shingle industry. About sixteen years ago he moved here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) with his family and located on a farm. He was married on April 11th, 1897, to Miss Fannie Feala, the oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Feala of this place. After his marriage he located on the farm and has resided there since. Jack assisted his parents a great deal and was a very hard worker all the days of his life. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America at this place and had a wide circle of friends who will miss him.

The funeral services were held Thursday forenoon at the St. Louis Church and the remains were interred in the St. Louis Cemetery, Rev. Birsner officiating.

A large concourse of people attended the funeral, among whom was the M. W. A. members of the Dorchester Lodge. He leaves a wife and two children, one two and one-half years old and the other six months old. Besides leaving his wife and children to mourn his death he leaves his mother, Mrs. Picha, two sisters, Miss Christina Picha and Mrs. Mary Helf, and two brothers, Frank and Joseph.
