Nedry, Minnie E. (9 FEB 1862 – 9 NOV 1901)

This week we are called to chronicle the death of Mrs. H. M. Nedry, one of the noblest and grandest women of this vicinity (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.). Her death, although expected, was a severe shock to the people here and by her death they lose an energetic and Christian worker.

She was ill only a short time but from the first seemed to decline steadily till she quietly passed away at 4 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Nedry, ever since her coming to Dorchester has taken a great interest in church and temperance work and to her efforts mostly can the success of those two lines of work be attributed. She was the one most instrumental in the starting of the Mizpah Lodge of Royal Neighbors and was an active member of the Good Templar’s Lodge. She was a leading spirit in many other good works and, once having decided that a thing was right, put all her energy and strength into it till her object was accomplished. Sorry, very sorry are we to chronicle the death of such a woman.

Minnie E. Brown, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Brown, was born on Feb. 9, 1862 in Waushara Co. Her childhood was spent in Wood and Waushara counties. She was a diligent student and at the age of sixteen was granted a teacher’s certificate.

She taught her first school near Hancock and for several years followed this profession. Her parents moved to Unity and here she again took up her occupation of teaching.

On Sept. 29, 1887 she was united in marriage to Dr. H. M. Nedry of this place where she has since resided.

She leaves to mourn her untimely death, her husband and nine children: Martha Agnes; Galen Claude; Clive James; Henry Schock; Earl Brown; Jay Rusk; Morris Dwane; Helen Margaret and Robert Lafollette, about five months old.

The funeral services were held at the house Monday afternoon, Rev. K. Knudson of Abbotsford officiating. The Woodmen and Royal Neighbors attended in a body and escorted the remains to the Union Cemetery where interment took place. The elegant floral decorations were presented by the Royal Neighbors.
