Obit: Bloom, Leo Henry (1917 - 1995)
from an undated newspaper clipping LEO BLOOM (1917 - 1995) Leo Henry Bloom, 77, Unity, died Thursday, March 9, 1995 at his home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 1995, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity. Rev. Brain Jaye officiated. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, town of Brighton, Marathon County. Pallbearers were Brad Ayer, Ken Johnson, Jim Dallmann, John Bloom, David Bloom, Doug Ayer, Brain Dallmann and Kurt Mertens. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Bloom, Warren Ayer, Bob Ayer, Gary Johnson, Greg Dallmann and Kelvin Bloom. Leo Henry Bloom was born on March 22, 1917 in Center City, Iowa to Henry and Eliza (nee Bruchbuhl) Bloom. He moved with his family to Loyal in 1918 where he was raised and attended school. He worked as a cheese maker in Pine Grove and then entered World War II with the U.S. Army, serving in the European and Pacific theatres. He returned to work as a cheese maker in Pine Grove and Longwood. He married Vivien E. Johnson on Jan. 5, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity. She survives. They started a grocery store in Unity in 1955 and ran it until 1968. He then worked for the former Dallmann Plastics in Unity. In 1970 they bought the Redwood Supper Club in Unity which they operated for several years. They retired and lived in Unity ever since. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as a board member, a member of Colby VFW Post 2227 and a former member of the Unity American Legion and the Unity Commercial Club; and also served as a Village Trustee in Unity for many years. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Susan (Don) Gipp, Unity; two sons, Ronald Bloom Alpharetta, Georgia; and Dennis (Pan) Bloom, Oak Park Heights, Minn.; three brothers, Lester (Zada) Bloom, Loyal; Glen (Agnes) Bloom, Loyal, and Clifford (Hisako) Bloom, China; two sisters, Esther (Al) Schultze, Neenah; and Inez Ockerhauser, Marshfield; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given and the family will designate them at a later date. Community Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. |
