Obit: Liskow, Walter E. (1918 - 2004)
Source: Westfield Republican (Westfield, NY) 27 March 2004 Liskow, Walter E. (8 Aug. 1918 - 10 March 2004) RANDOLPH - Walter E. Liskow, 85, of the Terrace Apartments, formerly of Rock City Street, Little Valley, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday (March 10, 2004) in the Lutheran Home in Jamestown. He was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Neillsville, Wis., the son of Edward Herman and Elsie Augusta Klawitter Liskow. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from May 6, 1941, to Oct. 16, 1945, in the 434th armoured field artillery battalion battery B, serving in Central Europe and The Rhineland, and obtained the rank of sergeant. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired in 1984 from the Craftsman Printing Company in Olean. In earlier years, he had been employed by the Cattaraugus Cutlery and The Hub Newspaper, both of Little Valley, Falconer Printing in Olean, Cuba Printing in Cuba, N.Y., and the Little Valley Rural Cemetery Association as a groundskeeper. He was a member of the St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Little Valley and the Little Valley American Legion Post 531. He took great pride in his lawn on Rock City Street and was known by all as a hard worker. He is survived by a son, Wendell R. Liskow of Biloxi, Miss.; a daughter, Melody K. Barrett of Oviedo, Fla.; four grandchildren: Robert W. Jr. and Andrew Barrett, Kaara L. Lind and Kyle W. Liskow; a great-grandchild; two sisters: Leona Adams of Cattaraugus and Ella Aldrich of South Dayton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma E. Weishan, whom he married Oct. 27, 1942, and who died Sept. 19, 1988; and a brother, Arnold Liskow in 2001. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday in St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Little Valley. The Rev. Gerard Sparaco, pastor of St. Michael's, will officiate. Burial will be in the Little Valley Rural Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Van Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. Memorials may be made to St. Michaels Lutheran Church, Rock City Street, Little Valley, N.Y., 14755.
