Handkey, Anna (4 Feb. 1840 - 1 Jan. 1933)

Mrs. Anna Handkey passed to that great beyond at 8 o’clock p.m. January 1st 1933. She had been a patient, suffering and confined to her bed for the last 10 months with dropsy. Her daughter Anna lavished upon her all the endearing courtesies that could be given a bed-ridden and loving mother. All through her long illness she had never once complained. Ms. Handkey had the ideal qualities for the work she had to do in life. In meeting the privations and difficulties of pioneer life. She was brave and cheerful and faced her duties without fear or discouragement. She was efficient in the work of the home, helpful and social in the life of the community and read to serve those who needed help. She was a member of the Grant Lutheran Church and a good Christian woman. Her life was spent honestly and industriously and her memory will long remain in the hearts who knew her. Deceased was born Anna Kehn, February 4, 1840, in Schlottave Germany; and was baptized there and confirmed when 14 years of age. She was married to Wm. *Handley, November 17, 1863. They came to America in 1871 and settled on a farm in Washburn. In 1878 they moved to Lynn where Mr and Mrs. *Handley took up residence on the farm which has ever since been her home and where she died. Mr. Handkey died December 25, 1897.

With 7 children, 3 daughters preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Caroline, Mrs. August Dankemeyer of Chili, Miss Anna Handkey at home and two sons, Fred Handkey of Lynn and Ernest Handkey of Nasonville, and one step son Gustave Handkey of Sherman and 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many near relatives and friends.

The funeral was held January 4, at 1o’clock at the home and at 2 o’clock at the Grant Lutheran Church Rev. Reif of Wausau officiating interment at the church cemetery beside her husband. Pall bearers were 6 grandsons: Elmer, Fred and Carl Handkey, Ernest Schlinsog and Leo and Wm. Dankemeyer. Flower girls were Dorothy, Mildred, Evelyn, Hazel, and Marion Handkey and Nona Dankemeyer.

We shall miss you sadly, Mother Miss you in the morning light. Miss you in the starry evening, Miss you in the quiet night.
