Obit: DeLitz, Herman O. ‘Red’ (1916 - 2004)
Source: Journal Times (Racine, Wis.) 28 July 2004 DeLitz, Herman O. ‘Red’ (16 April 1916 - 25 July 2005) RACINE - Mr. Herman O. 'Red' DeLitz, 88, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Red was born in Withee, Wis. on April 16, 1916, to Henrietta (nee: Greenwood) and Emil DeLitz. He was married to Helen (nee: Brezney ) for 39 years. After her death he married Betty Oertel. They were married for over 21 years at the time of his death. Red was a long time resident of Racine. For years he operated DeLitz Radio and Television Repair Shop on State Street. Red Served in the Navy during World War II as a Fire Controleman aboard the USS Tingey. He often told stories about his adventures at sea. He was a long time member of the State Street Buinessmen's Association often serving as President. For years he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Red had a passion for Racine memorabilia. He was a true Racine Historian and often gave speeches about the early dignitaries and development of this city. He donated many articles of interest for the new Racine Historical Museum. So Much so, that recognition will be given to him acknowledging his many contributions when this building opens. Grandpa is survived by his wife, Betty. His step-children, Betsy (Mark) Miller, Eleanor (Gene) Thompson, Lary Oertel, Pamela (Dr. James) Jorgenson, Sally (Fred) Brooks, Mary Jo (Phillip) Klamm, and Jane (Dr. Keith) Soko. He was "Grandpa Red" to 20 adults, children, and all of their children. He is also survived by a sister, Lydia (Dave) Levin; a nephew, Dave (Fay) Schmanski; and a neice, Donna. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; and by his daughter, Patricia. We will all miss him very much. A private memorial service will be held for his family at Meadowbrook Country Club.
