MILITARY SERVICES HELD FOR SOLDIER

Pfc. Wilford D. Evans, Killed Nov. 16, 1944, Buried Saturday

Neillsville---Military funeral services for Pfc. Wilford D. Evans, 24, killed on Leyte in the Philippine Islands Nov. 16, 1944, were conducted at the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Reburial took place in the Neillsville city cemetery. The Rev. Virgil Nulton officiated at the service.

The pallbearers, all members of the original Service Company in which Pfc. Evans served, were Harley Jake, Louis Zschernitz, George Campbell, Claude Ayers, Norman DeCremer, and Clarence Bremmer. The firing squad consisted of members of the service company and members of the American Legion. Veterans of Foreign Wars representatives carried the colors. Keith Counsell and Robert Scott were the buglers. Sgt. A Neilsson, Fort Sheridan, acted as military escort.

Miss Betty Larson sang, "The Lord's Prayer" and "Does Jesus Care?". Mrs. Florence Counsell accompanied on the piano.

Among those from out-of-town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Evans, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Evans, Wisconsin Rapids;, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shaw and son, Dick, Black River Falls; Mrs. Amos Vaughn, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Evans, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Evans and son, Lyle Jr., Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mills and family, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. .Alfred Foemmel, Granton; Mrs. Albert Andraschko, Lyle Andraschko, and Audrey Peterson, all of Oshkosh.
