Surname: Skriver, Owen, Robeson, Bernard, Zimmerman, Bassett, Christensan, Thompson Source: Newport News-Times (Newport, OR.) 9 Oct. 2004 Skriver, Gordon R. (28 Jan. 1929 - 4 Oct. 2004) Gordon R. Skriver, 75, died at his South Beach home Oct. 4, 2004 of Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born Jan. 28, 1929, to Martin and Ila Skriver at Withee, Wis. The family moved to Newport in 1939 and Skriver graduated from Newport High School. He and Joan Owen were married in July, 1949. While still in high school, he joined his father's machine shop and became a skilled machinist respected in the machine and boat works industries. Skriver worked for a time at Bayside Machine Shoppe and for Georgia Pacific at Toledo. He later worked for and retired from Yaquina Boat Works. Skriver was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed woodworking and following his grandchildren's participation in a variety of sports and activities. He is survived by a son, Larry Skriver of Newport; a daughter, Judy Robeson of Albany; a brother, Warren Skriver of Anderson, Calif.; his companion, Charlene Bernard of South Beach; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Joan, in 1988; two brothers, Truman (Pete) Skriver and Leland Skriver; and four sisters, Amy Zimmerman, Anita Bassett, Aileen Christensan and Patty Thompson. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Eureka Cemetery at Newport. Bateman Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pacific Communities Hospital Foundation for Hospice or the Newport Boosters. |
