Baehr, Otto (13 MAY 1863 – 25 OCT 1928)

Mr. Otto Baehr was born at Neufaltenberg, Pomerania, Germany, on May 13th, 1863 and died Oct. 25th, 1928, aged 65 years, 5 months and 12 days, death being due to heart ailment.

He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. Funeral services were held from the home and Dorchester on the afternoon of Oct. 29th, Rev. J. Brandt officiating and F. J. Fuchsgruber conducting the funeral. Interment was made at the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank Fitzlaff, Carl Brecklin, John Bremer, William Benzmann, William Copeland Sr., and Gust Nixdorf.

Mr. Baehr was the son of Carl and Fredericka (Wurdel) Baehr and the family immigrated to America in the spring of 1878. After residing in Milwaukee for several months with a son, Frank, who had preceded them to this country, the family moved to Dorchester, Clark County, Wis. Where Carl Baehr bought a farm in Section 23, Town of Mayville, Clark County. Otto bought this farm from the estate of his father in 1892 and lived on it up to the time of his death.

He was married in 1895 to Miss Louisa Theel of Kiel, this state, a daughter of William and Fredericka (Wichmann) Theel (Theil?). This union was blessed with nine children, all of whom are living. They are: Ervin of Detroit, Mich., Amanda of Milwaukee, William of Champion-Urbana, Ill., Arthur at home, Frieda of Madison, Wis., Robert of Chicago, Ill., Clara, Leona and Clarence at home.

Mr. Baehr was always actively interested in public affairs. For over thirty years he served as school clerk of his district and also served at various times in the capacity of Justice of the Peace, chairman, and assessor of the township of Mayville. Always interested in supporting cooperative enterprises among farmers, he was for many years secretary manager of Society for Equity. His activities as one of the founders and officers of the Dorchester Cooperative Co. are well known. He was instrumental in establishing the local congregation of the Lutheran Church and since 1908 continuously served as its secretary.

Apart from his wife and children, Mr. Baehr is survived by two brothers, Arthur of Dorchester, and Robert of Germany, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Koerher of Dorchester.

Theel, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Vogt, all of Kiel; and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wilhelmi, Miss Norma Baehr and Mr. Joseph Brown, all of Milwaukee.
