Shaw, Amanda Isadore (3 March 1858 – 26 March 1934)

Amanda Isadore Butterfield was born March 3, 1858 to Joseph Butterfield and his wife Elizabeth Given, at St. Alban, Maine. At the age of 17 she came to Wisconsin and on April 15, 1876, was married to Chas. Shaw at Neillsville. In the fall of that years they moved to their farm in Christie where they have lived for 58 years.

Mrs. Shaw passed away at her home after a long illness on March 26, 1934. She was cheerful and uncomplaining during her illness and appreciated every loving word and deed.

In times of sickness and trouble Mrs. Shaw always was the first to offer assistance and sympathy. She was a true friend in every way. She was a wonderful wife and mother; and unselfish woman who thought only of the welfare of others, showing the sweet gentle spirit by which “Grandma Shaw’ was known. She will be remembered by young and old as a lady of great refinement; a lover of beauty, art and literature. She enjoyed and appreciated fine music and was passionately fond of flowers.

Mrs. Shaw was a member of the Methodist church and the Ladies Aid society at Christie and was a faithful helper in promoting the welfare of the church. She was a devout Christian who carried out His word throughout her life.

Mrs. Shaw was a woman who brought forward to modern times all the good traits and traditions of pioneer life. She had a wide circle of friends who loved and respected her.

In her own home she leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one brother, E. F. Butterfield of Woodburn, Ore.; two daughters, Anna (Mrs. Ed. Tucker) and Mildred (Mrs. Albert Neis), both of Lodi; one son, Linwood Shaw. One daughter Gladys died in infancy. She also leaves six grandsons, Ray and Everett Shaw of Neillsville, Charles and Lavern Tucker of Lodi, De Vere Neis, Lodi, and Shirley Neis, Madison and four great grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Shaw were held at her home Thursday at 1 o’clock and at the Methodist church in Neillsville, Rev. Glenn Shank officiating. The love and sympathy of relatives and friends was shown in a profusion of beautiful flowers.

Pallbearers were Bruce Armitage, Dan Timerson, Matt Schaefer, Hal Richardson, Al Foreman, Lew Brown. Those who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Neis, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. De Vere Neis of Lodi; Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Neis of Madison; Mrs. P. W. Hales of Poynette; Mrs. F. Babbe, son and daughter of Cashton, and Mrs. Geo. Iffland of Humbird, Wis.
