Source: TRG Loyal, WI, June 1, 2005, page 5. Clark Co. Internet Library's Gifts to the Community This past week, the Clark Co., WI Internet Library contributed two new HP scanners to the area, one to the Greenwood Public Library and another to the new Clark Co., WI Local History Center in the Loyal Public Library. The nation-wide group of volunteers which run the site, call themselves, "The Clark Co., WI History Buffs" and the goal of this non-profit organization is to promote the preservation of Clark County's local area history, historic landmarks and museums. The Clark Co., WI History Buffs are helping to preserve the local area history on the World Wide Web. The project is hosted by the Wisconsin Valley Library Service (WVLS) which serves a public library system of 15 facilities in seven Wisconsin counties, including Clark County. The web site is currently receiving over 3,000 visitors per month and recently received nation-wide recognition as a site of excellence. Many have declared it, "The best Local History Site in the Nation!" The Clark County Internet Library is working 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to make the area's historic past readily available to anyone with computer access. This repository contains comprehensive records for nearly all of the county Cemeteries, plus a huge collection of obituaries, biographies and news items found nowhere else. Even in its embryonic stages, it is already a perfect tribute and memorial to those who have made us what we are today. Along with providing a safe-keeping for numerous treasured documents, this effort stimulates tourism to the area and increased usage of its museums and historic landmarks. This site aids in connecting Clark County to every state in the union as well as providing it global exposure. None of the individuals working with the online library are paid any salary, and no one is charged access fees to use the information. The large group of willing volunteers, invites you to stop by for a visit at: http://wvls.lib.wi.us/ClarkCounty/ to learn more about the project.
