Surname: Bue, Short, Meddaugh, Kissling, Herried, Vornholt, Hemphill Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 9 Aug. 1934 Bue, George (30 April 1863 – 5 Aug. 1934) George Bue, a resident of Clark County for about 54 years, passed away at his home in Neillsville Sunday afternoon, Aug. 5, aged 71 years, 3 months and 5 days. His death was due to heart trouble. George Bue was born at Bergen, Norway, April 30, 1863, being the youngest of 8 children born to Tosten and Annie Bue. He came with his parents to Decorah, Iowa, when he was three years old. A week after the arrival of the family his mother died, and he was cared for in the homes of the neighbors. At the age of 17 he came to Clark County and worked on farms and in logging camps. He secured land at Shortville and engaged in farming there. Learning the trade of butter maker, he operated the creamery at Shortville and at Pleasant Ridge for some time. Eighteen years ago he retired from farming, bought a home in Neillsville and has lived here ever since, doing work of various kinds. For several years he has been the gardener at the Hemphill home. Mr. Bue was married to Fannie E. Short of Shortville, July 5, 1897. Two children, a son and a daughter were born to them, both dying in infancy. A niece, Alice Meddaugh, now Mrs. Harry Kissling was brought up in their home as one of the family. Besides his widow and his niece, he leaves a number of nephews and nieces, a sister Mrs. T. G. Herried of Ettrick, Wis., and one brother John Bue, of North Dakota. Mr. Bue was a man of industry and sterling upright honesty. He was frank and outspoken in his views, but was a ready helper for any person or undertaking needing assistance. In his home and among the old group of friends in Shortville as well as locally he will be greatly missed. For many years he had been a member of the Masonic lodge in Neillsville. The funeral is held Today, Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Masonic Temple, Rev. E. H. Vornholt officiating and the Masonic ritual being used.
