Rice, Charles (1873? – 7 OCT 1931)

Mr. Charles Rice died in Denver, Colorado Oct. 7, after an operation for appendicitis, followed by pneumonia. He was about fifty-eight years old.

Mr. Rice was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Rice, old residents in our vicinity. He taught in the grammar department of our village schools and was highly respected among our people.

Mr. Rice married Jane Sufficol of Neillsville and moved to Colorado where they lived for several years. He was then made business manager of the Adventist Sanitarium at St. Helena, California in which institution his sister Helen was superintendent of nurses. From there he was promoted to the position of General Secretary of the administration of Adventist Sanitariums in the United States and was removed to Washington D. C. About a year ago his work took him to Denver in which city he remained until his death. Mrs. Rice was with him. His son Harley and his sister Helen both of Paradise Valley Sanitarium were on their way to his bedside when he passed away. His sister Mary, Mrs. Benson, lived in Glendale, California, and his daughter Lois is married and lives in St. Helena, California.

We may judge by the trust imposed in him that the high ideals that Mr. Rice had as a young man among us led him to an honored life of service, and we may also judge that his last days were blessed by the knowledge that his son was even preparing to answer a call to a high and responsible position in Washington D. C., thus carrying on the work to which Mr. Rice had dedicated his life.
