Bender, Brice (25 Aug. 1925 – 14 Jan. 1991)

Colby – Brice H., 65, Colby, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit, Marshfield.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, with the Rev. Bruce Ball officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at Rux Funeral Home, Colby, after 4 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian Mothers rosary service at 4 and a general parish rosary service at 8.

He was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Colby, the son of Ethel Bender of Colby and the late Harry Bender. He received his education in the Colby School system and attended the university of Wisconsin-Madison. He married Alice Bohman Oct. 11, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford.

He farmed all his life in the town of Frankfort. He was a 4-H leader for the Cherokee Chums 4-H Club for 43 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Colby Council, the Colby Future Farmers of America Alumni Association and was active in various coopertatives throughout the state. He was a member of the board of directors of the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives from 1971-87 and Tri-State Cooperative from 1980-86. He had been member of the board of directors of Clark County Electric Cooperative from 1986 until the time of his death. He had also been a member of Dairy land Power Cooperative from 1969-77 and from 1987 until the time of his death, and the Marathon County ASCS from 1987 until the time of his death. He was a former member of the Colby School Board. He had received an award for distinction and appreciation of high meritorious service to agricultural and rural life from UW-Madison.

Besides his mother, he is also survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Diane) Bauer of Stevens Point; three sons, Duane and Daniel, both of Colby, and Dean of Dorchester, two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Betty Jean) Nelson of Decorah, Iowa, and Mrs. Barbara Schmidtbauer of Tomahawk; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name to Marathon County 4-H.
