1974 Plat Book for Clark County, Wisconsin – Family History excerpt

Henry Awe Family – Since several of his nearest of kin were living in Clark County, Henry Awe, who was working at the carpenter trade in his native Calumet County, came to Clark County in the early 80’s and bought the N.W. 1/4 of Sec. 31, town 28, Rt 1, West from the Wisconsin Central RR Co, and soon cut down 5 acres of woods on the N.W. corner of his 40 acres. On August 29, 1886, he married Fridericka Loos of the Lake Shore region. After coming to Clark County, they build a log house, a temporary stable to house a few farm animals (which was replaced by a timber frame barn in 1890), and raised their family – William, born June 19, 1887; Emma, born January 1, 1889; Lydia, born Oct. 7, 1890; Martha, born July 5, 1893; Arthur, born July 20, 1895; and Elizabeth, born May 21, 1901. A saw mill was built in the early 90’s, was sold, and another built in 1904-05 (which still stands). In 1904, the barn was raised and extended. The brick veneer dwelling was built in 1987 and enlarged in 1912. An additional 200 acres was purchased, and an additional 80 acres acquired in 1915. In 1923, the farm was divided, with part being taken over by son William, and part taken over by Arthur, the present Owner. The mother passed away January, 1929 and the father Feb. 1, 1936. Arthur and his wife have one son, Henry, who lives at home. The Henry Awe farm is pictured above.
